چکیده

Rotary ionic engines (RIEs) with multi-coaxial contra-rotating propellers (12.6 cm diameter) and their axial thrust are investigated in laboratory conditions, air at atmospheric pressure, for the first time. The goal is to evaluate more advantageous configurations that may be scaled up further help development of rotary drones. designed regular pin-emitter electrodes placed coaxially inside a cylindrical collector electrode. When high voltage applied, spin generating conventional which measured an electronic scale “see-saw” setup. Up 40 mN was obtained single propeller RIE 2600 rpm, 0.34 mA, 37.5 kV, optimal electrode diameter 17 cm. More can two three constant current per but decreased efficiency. Varying propeller-separation showed propeller-interaction minimal above 5 Thrust-to-power thrust-to-current ratios were calculated compared. We experimentally confirm here time within certain limits, thrust-to-power variation assessed by kinetic energy-to-power ratio also impedance gap (voltage-to-current ratio). A comparison arrays performance one, two, coaxial same total number array (six) performed. provide larger densities than single-propeller arrays. Also, employing unit weight effective.

Propeller Induced Structural Vibration through the Thrust Bearing

Propeller induced structural vibration through the thrust bearing is an important source for low frequency shipboard noise and underwater sound radiation from a submarine hull. Such vibration is investigated using a scaled experimental model. This research concentrates on the experimental characterization of propeller force, hydrodynamic force of the thrust bearing and vibration transmission th...

Experimental Validation of a Marine Propeller Thrust Estimation Scheme∗

A thrust estimation scheme for a marine propeller has been experimentally tested in waves and with a device that simulates the influence of a vessel hull. The scheme is formed by a nonlinear propeller torque observer and a mapping to generate the thrust from the observed torque. The mapping includes the estimation of the advance number. This is utilized to improve the performance when the prope...

Comparing Direct and Indirect Thrust Measurements from Passively Fed and Highly Ionic Electrospray Thrusters

Highly ionic beams of several hundred μA per cm 2 have been measured from porous glass ionic liquid electrospray sources fabricated using a conventional mill. The thrust output from three prototype devices, two emitting the ionic liquid EMI-Im and one emitting EMI-BF 4, was measured directly using a precise balance. Thrusts up to 50 μN were measured when emitting EMI-Im in a bipolar, alternatin...

Thrust Measurements of a Helicon Plasma Source

There is interest in using a helicon plasma source in propulsive applications as both an ion source and as a thruster. Developing a helicon thruster requires a performance baseline as a basis for future optimization and expansion. The thrust of a helicon is measured using an null-type inverted pendulum thrust stand at a pressure of 2x10 -5 Torr through the operating range of 215-840 W RF power,...

AERO-THERMODYNAMIC OPTIMIZATION OF TURBOPROP ENGINES USING MULTI-OBJECTIVE GENETIC ALGORITHMS

In this paper multi-objective genetic algorithms were employed for Pareto approach optimization of turboprop engines. The considered objective functions are used to maximize the specific thrust, propulsive efficiency, thermal efficiency, propeller efficiency and minimize the thrust specific fuel consumption. These objectives are usually conflicting with each other. The design variables consist ...
